tried out my new AK.
I tried it out at the indoor range today. The third shot stoved piped on me. I think it was caused because I didn't push one of the cartridges all the way back to the rear of the mag, so the bullet was rubbing against the mag. I now hold the mag at an angle when I insert the ammo in so that they stay fallen to the rear. Also when I first fired I was not sure how the recoil was going to be so I might of fired it at an angle. The recoil was nothing, seemed the same as the AR.
Well, the first load was american eagle, the second load was another brand the range sells not sure who makes it but it is steel casings with copper jacket. That one shot about the same as far as I can tell and no more stove pipes. The accurarcy of this bulgarian arsenal was great. No sight adjustments and it hit mostly in the center of the target from 25 yards. I had more trouble with my new AR that I am still adjusting on. All in all, I like the AK47 better. Though I will eventually have to try at an outdoor range with much longer distances. |

Re: tried out my new AK.
accuracy was great...... at 25 yards?
ten year old kids throw rocks 25 yards. |
Re: tried out my new AK.
Rocks thrown by 10yo don't generally travel over 2000 fps and make your head explode on contact. I'm just saying, your point about 25yd accuracy is spot on.

Re: tried out my new AK.
Most firefights are at 25-30 yds. Enjoy your new friend.

Re: tried out my new AK.
25 yards is a good start. From there you learn to extrapolate it out to 50, 100, 200 yards.
I have a Bulgarian and it is as accurate as I need it to be, and has always functioned perfectly. The journey of a thousand miles begins with the first step |

If it keeps stovepiping, try a new magazine. Also, if the ammo was Wolf, it has a reputation for being unreliable in AKs. Some AKs never have a problem with it; some just don't like it. |

100 yards is really not that far and in urban situations there is generaly not a clear 100 yard obsticle free zone. Practice all you can at 100-200 yards with that new AK, but make sure you can swing that thing and operate it against targets at 35 yards and less as; that will be your most likley engagment distance. |
Re: tried out my new AK.
No military here? We were taught to rap a fresh mag hard to avoid your problem (palm or helmet)

Re: tried out my new AK.
It must be nice to play with such wonderful toys. Enjoy them while you can. Up here in Canada, they're (the government) slowly taking them all away from us. Registrations, classifications, restrictions, you name it, they've got bull$h!t rules ready to pound you and a harsh penalty system for violations. My father was going to pass on his collection when he passed away, but, with all the new rules, I would end up with a couple single shot shotguns and a bolt-action (with no more than 5 in the clip, or is possibly 3 now?) hunting rifle. I told him not to bother. Wasn't even gonna go through the obstacle course licensing procedure anyway. No license, no gun, no worry. Its what they want anyway. Stay free you guys/gals, I'm envious.
